Dance is a sports branch that has been active for more than 80 years in the World Dance Sports Federation and in Turkey since 2007 through clubs affiliated to the Turkish Dance Sports Federation. It consists of three sections: “Ballroom dances” (slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, quickstep), “Latin dances” (samba, cha-cha, rumba, paso doble, jive) and “10 Dances” which includes both branches.

In dance sports groups, hobby classes teach the dances and figures in the curriculum determined by the International Dance Federation, while at the same time developing basic dance and rhythm skills. At the end of the year, all our hobby classes perform the dances they have learned on a rented stage in front of an audience.

The curriculum of our school is not only focused on performances. They learn the curriculum that will be accepted wherever they go in the world, appropriate to the time they dance during the school year, and at the end of the year they perform a choreography enriched with performances that include this information.

It is possible to move from hobby classes to competition groups and become a licensed competitor. Our hobby classes are held 2 days a week, 1 lesson each, for a total of 8 lessons per month. Our classes are 45 minutes long.

Dance sports competitor groups, dancers who want to become a licensed athlete and a national team athlete by taking the dance branch to a professional platform are accepted into competitor groups suitable for their level and age with the approval of our instructors. The curriculum of the competition groups teaches the dances and movements determined by the International Dance Federation. Unlike hobby classes, the number of classes consists of 3 or 4 hours per week and there are also stretching classes. Athletes begin to compete in age-appropriate categories in divisions that include movements appropriate to their experience (e.g. 6-8 year olds in the Junior 1 age category – 2 dance divisions, or 13-14 year olds in the Stars 1 age category – 8 dance divisions).

At the age of 15, the top 3 athletes in the Turkish Championship ranking can represent Turkey in the World and European championships and become A national athletes. In addition, all Turkish Championship finalists (top 6 athletes) can compete in an international competition and receive the C National Certificate. Nowadays, many middle schools, high schools and universities offer achievement scholarships to national team athletes and the Ministry of Youth and Sports also offers state contribution scholarships.

As Stardance, our founder İpek Yavuzer has been appointed as the national team coach, as we have trained many national team athletes in Turkey and led Turkey to the finals of the European and World Championships for the first time.
